Local Markdown formatting
MD Formatter
Clean up Markdown spacing, headings, and list markers in this tab. Checks flag unclosed code fences, uneven tables, skipped heading levels, and empty links.
- Line 4: this heading skips a level.
- Line 10: this link is missing its text or address.
- Line 14: this table row does not match the header's column count.
No upload. The current source stays in this tab.
What the formatter changes
Outside a fenced code block, it trims trailing spaces, adds the missing space after heading marks, changes asterisk and plus list markers to hyphens, and collapses extra blank lines. It also inserts a blank line before a heading when the previous line has text. Text inside a fence stays as written.
Checks that stay on the page
Formatting does not invent missing table cells or close a fence for you. Those problems stay in the list with a line number so you can read them before copying the result.
This page is not Prettier. Prettier runs inside a project. The formatter here only adjusts Markdown spacing and reports those four checks.
MD formatter FAQ
Is this the Prettier Markdown formatter?
No. Prettier is a separate project formatter with its own configuration. Markdown Viewer does not run Prettier. This tool only changes spacing, heading marks, and unordered-list markers, and it leaves fenced code untouched.
Will formatting rewrite code samples?
No. Lines between opening and closing fences are preserved, including their spaces and list-like characters. Only the text outside those fences is normalized.
Is the Markdown uploaded?
No. Pasting, formatting, copying, and downloading all happen in this browser tab.
